What’s New in Printers and Scanners: Things to Look for in Your Next Device
by Eric Eskra, Canon ITCG Trainer

Whether you are new to printing and/or scanning and looking to buy your first device, or planning to upgrade your existing printer or scanner and want to know the best technology to invest in, or just interested in learning more about the latest generation of printers and scanners, you will be enlightened by this program.

Eric Eskra from Canon ITCG will present a general overview of ink jet printer technology and cover the important features you need to know to compare different printers. Learn about the different inks, sizes and papers available. Find which printers are the most economical to buy and use. Discover how to obtain the longest lasting printed images. Learn how to select the printer that is right for your needs from the many that are available today. Eric will also discuss dedicated photo printers compared to all-in-one printer/scanner/copier combinations for image quality and cost.

This presentation will include a live printing demo, so bring your images on a thumb drive to see your images printed out by the Canon output solution.

Canon will also present a general overview of scanners, reviewing the latest scanner technology, such as the new LED lighting, and what capabilities you need to convert printed material (photos, documents, newspapers, old family records) into digital format to preserve and restore them. Eric will discuss the features needed for different types of scanning – photos, transparencies, line art, text; and what resolution is necessary to achieve great results, again comparing dedicated scanners to all-in-one printer/scanner/copier combinations for scan quality and cost.

Come and join us for this unique opportunity to learn how printers and scanners work and how to buy the correct devices that meet your needs, and see your favorite image printed on a Canon printer.

Nick Mejia from IT Supplies, our local Canon dealer, will have special offers on Canon printers and paper products for attendees, as well as special pricing on assortment packs of speciality papers.

iPhonography: the new direction in photography
by Jerry Hug, nationally recognized Photographer and TNWoU member

“The best camera is the one you have with you”, so states Jerry Hug. For many of us, that means your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch – your iDevices. At our May 11 main meeting, Jerry will explain and demonstrate the ease and simplicity of taking photos with your iDevices and give tips on how to get the best shots possible. Jerry is both an experienced and talented educator and photographer – - – just the person to explain the process so you understand it and then challenge your creativity to make each image distinctly ‘yours’.

During the second presentation, Jerry will demonstrate additional apps to ‘improve’ the photos on your iDevice, that will change the mood of a photo or emphasize different colors, textures and structure. These could impress your friends with your photographic genius – - – or even scare your dog. It will depend on you.

Additionally, in advance of the meeting, he will provide a list of apps that you can download at home so your iDevice will be ready for you to follow along as he explains and demonstrates specific apps. Jerry recommends you install the following apps before you attend the meeting: Snapseed, Perfectly Clear, Touch/Retouch, and Camera Awesome.

Come join us on a journey of education and fun on how to take better photos with your iDevices and how to improve them. We hope to see you there.
