SIGs Special Interest Groups
Special Interest Groups are at the heart of TNWoU, offering in-depth knowledge from experts in the group. Most SIG leaders are professionals and have years experience.
New SIGs are formed as members express interest
Generally, SIG meetings are held in one of the several conference rooms off the main lobby of the Hotel Indigo, the larger SIG will be downstairs of the Hotel Indigo.
Meeting notices and/or announcements are included within each SIG's section, below:

Meets second Wednesday of the month, 7 PM, at the Hotel Indigo. For all levels of users, meetings have general how-to discussions and may also cover a specific topic. "Show and Tell" is encouraged so attendees may wish to bring disks with FileMaker databases they have created to be used as examples or to have evaluated for improvement. Q and A at every meeting.

Yes, TNWoU has a F.O.O.D. SIG!!!
A group of members have been meeting for lunch after Main Meetings...for at least five years. When TNWoU moved to the Holiday Inn, we began to meet for lunch at Russell's BBQ--less than a mile east of the hotel, on Algonquin Road. We organized officially, by building the acronym first (*had* to be food!) and figuring out the words it stands for: Fun Obscure Obtuse Discussions [Special Interest Group].
Rather than meeting in the standard restaurant space, we commandeer a back party room for the group through a reservation from 1pm to 3pm. Attendees are key members from at least half of the Main Meeting tables, several from the Control Panel/Board and many just plain members who enjoy the company of other Mac users and hearing what they have to say.
Discussions include regular evaluation of the Main Meeting and our never-ending ideas on how to improve it or who to have present (without any of us working on these ideas), things like memory necessary to run certain programs, resolving Mac problems, which not-so-new hardware might be best to buy when newer stuff comes out,, possible announcements Steve Jobs will make at the next big Mac event --always an interesting debate among Macheads--, health (while some of us eat the one not-so-healthy meal of the month), digital images and how best to save/use them. You name it, we talk about it! We've even had members show off niche software via laptops.
All members are eligible to attend TNWoU SIGs, including the F.O.O.D. SIG. Please consider joining us about a half hour after a Main Meeting and join in the fun and comraderie.
Use the Mac to organize your family history and research your family tree. Supplement to traditional genealogical resources. Frequent discussions about Reunion genealogical software as well as helpful websites. Meetings: 9:30 a.m. to noon, usually 4th Saturdays, even-numbered months, except December. Meetings will be in Jan, Apr, June, Aug, Oct. Feb will be a "field trip" to the DuPage Co Gen Soc Workshop.
Let me know if there is a specific topic you want to discuss, or web sites you want to look at.
If you have any questions about Reunion and/or entering YOUR data, please bring your data on a CD or flash drive.
If you have any questions about how to do YOUR family history research, please bring your data on a CD or flash drive. What brick wall(s) are you trying to scale?
Look forward to seeing you at the next meeting! Contact: Gail Santroch for information. The room opens at 9am but meetings start at 9:30am.

Meets 1st Thurs of the month, 7:00 PM, at the Hotel Indigo, except in Jan, June, July, August and December. This SIG addresses all imaginable graphics issues: font management, Illustrator, XPress, 3D rendering, Fractal Design Painter, etc.. Current focus is Photoshop, but this may change based on member input. "Show and Tell" is encouraged, and the group is polled regularly to determine meeting agendas. Bring questions! You don't have to be a graphics expert to benefit from this SIG.

Meets 2nd Saturday of the month, 8:30 to 9:45 AM, preceding TNWoU general meeting. For new and want-to-know-more Mac users. We cover various Mac topics including how to use the basic Mac system, troubleshooting (Whoa! How do I get this to work again?), utilities, virus protection, all about RAM memory and disk space, and connecting your computer to other computers and the Internet As well as "I've heard about this; how can I do this?". Bring all your questions... nothing is too basic. Location: main meeting site. Contact: Bill Geraci. (mailto:bgcomphelp@mac.com)
Meeting format:
First 25-35 minutes: Bill Geraci introduces you to something useful on the Mac.
Last 45 minutes: Questions from the floor.
Ask any questions you want about Mac and computers: how they work, how to work them and more! And get explanations REAL beginners can understand!
Note that a 1/3 or more of those in attendance must want to hear the answer to questions! This will keep questions that are too technical from taking our time. The facilitator will try and answer those more technical questions after the SIG meeting.
